Police: Sheraden Man Found Dead In Own Home Was Beaten, Shot

PITTSBURGH,None — Pittsburgh police are continuing to investigate the death of a Sheraden man who was found beaten and shot in his own home on Wednesday.

Ben Lewis, 44, was found dead in his house along Sacramento Avenue at about 4 p.m. Police said the front door of the house looked like it was kicked in, and the home had been ransacked.

Lewis was found on the floor with a head injury. Police said he had been shot in the chest several times.

Channel 11 News was the only television station there when police found Lewis' missing pickup truck near Sheraden Park later that evening. Right now, police aren't sure how the truck got there.

"We have some information," said Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki of the Pittsburgh Police Department. "There may have been a disturbance in the early-morning hours ... followed by a couple of gunshots."

Police were initially called to the home because of an air-conditioning unit hanging out of a window, but then discovered Lewis' body.

"I went over there and knocked on the door, noticed the door was open," said an unidentified neighbor. "I yelled out his name and didn't hear anything. I saw it was broken on the side, and that's when I called."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
