Rep. Summer Lee (D) released the following statement:
“In America, our judicial system hinges on the idea that every person is subject to the same laws. Donald Trump is an American citizen and he must be subject to the law just like the rest of us. He doesn’t get to be above the law just because he is rich and formerly powerful. That’s what our democracy relies on.
“Americans deserve to trust that if anyone in elected office abuses their power by breaking campaign finance laws to hide information from voters and sway an election, they will be investigated, charged, and convinced in accordance with due process. The same goes for the many other even-more-serious criminal acts for which Trump is being investigated.
“Now that the grand jury has voted to indict, I hope and pray that we as a country - especially our elected leaders - will come together and let our judicial system serve its purpose without the kind of intimidation, interference, or incitement of violence we’re seeing from the former President on social media once again tonight. Our democracy and the communities we serve depend on that.”
