Pittsburgh is a city rich in history, culture and natural beauty that can all be captured in pictures. Those images, taken by local photographers in the 412 Project, are now available to a wider audience than ever before.
"We feature the pictures on our Instagram page," said project member Jesse Taylor. "We have over 5,000 followers now."
The 412 Project started a year ago. Some of the members are seasoned photographers, others are beginners. Project members said all that is required is an interest in the art of photography.
"I was kind of new to photography at the time, and I learned so much from them," said new member Jim Wimer.
The group gets together for what it calls "instameets". Members all meet in one part of the city to share ideas and take pictures.
"What I really love about these meets is you see so many different things in the city, but everybody sees it differently," Wimer said.
"There are so many creative people in the city and so many people were out on their own little island," added Taylor. "Now they're able to meet each other, and the people who have been taking pictures for a long time link up with the beginners."
Along with Instagram, the 412 Project also teams up with local shops and restaurants to display the photos. The latest venue is the Smallman Gallery in the Strip District.
