Regional health system planning new medical facility in Ellwood City after hospital closure

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. — “People could die because of this.”

Less than a month ago, Ellwood City lost its only hospital when it suddenly closed. On Tuesday, Channel 11 spoke with people in the area who said they are nervous about how far away their next best option lies.

Butler Health System is opening a new facility there, but it won’t be a hospital.

“Just wish things would’ve been better managed. There’s a lot of people kind of depended on it,” said Brandi Buchignany, a nearby resident. “This is an older community out this way -- they kind of need something that’s closer.”
