The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission voted Tuesday to increase the speed limit on most of the road to 70 mph, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The change is expected to go into effect in the spring.
Areas that currently have a 65 mph limit will be increased to 70 mph.
The Post-Gazette reports areas that are currently posted at 55 mph will remain at 55.
The commission studied the change for 18 months. The increase was tested on a 100-mile stretch between Morgantown and Blue Mountain.
The commission found that there was not a marked increase in the actual average speed of vehicles in the test area.
