ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The owners of a restaurant along Camp Horne Road said their business has dropped 40 percent since construction began in August.
The owners of Sunny Jim’s Tavern, Mike Stachel and Jim Oliver, said they haven’t taken a paycheck in weeks because they are trying to help some of their staff, especially the waitresses.
"I feel bad for them because a lot of them work for tips. That's mostly their pay. They’re just not making any tips," Stachel said.
The Tavern has been in operation for 40 years, but Stachel said the construction of a retaining wall that started in August has caused business to drop by 40 percent.
Approximately 11,000 motorists use Camp Horne Road a day. The road connects Route 65 to Interstate 279.
"We heard they were ahead of schedule, so they weren't working. Beautiful days gone by (and) they weren't working. Now, we're hearing it'll be after Thanksgiving," Stachel said.
Allegheny County officials told Channel 11 that they had "…always indicated that it would be done mid-November, rather than a specific date, weather permitting…it will be done before Thanksgiving, but have no specific date."
