Review confirms tornadoes in Pennsylvania, West Virginia

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The National Weather Service has confirmed that two small tornadoes were spawned by storms in southwestern Pennsylvania near the West Virginia border last week.

Investigators say a weak tornado spawning 70 mph winds hit Dunbar Township, Fayette County on Thursday. The tornado's path was less than a mile.

Nobody was hurt, but the storm downed or uprooted about 80 trees. The tornado is the first confirmed in the county since July 30, 2008.

The same storm system is being blamed for another tornado just across the border in Monongalia County, West Virginia. That tornado, just outside Morgantown, delivered winds up to 80 mph.
