PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium’s clouded leopard parents, Saya and Pi, welcomed their two new cubs on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Zoo officials said they suspected Saya was getting close to giving birth when she started behaving differently. She went into the nesting box and a short time later, staff saw a tiny spotted leopard cub. Shortly after that, the second cub was born.

Saya cleaned both cubs, and zoo staff said she tried to position them to nurse, but they failed to do so. After she left the nesting box, zoo staff made the decision to remove the cubs and nurse them artificially instead.
The new cubs will stay at the Animal Care Center for a few more weeks before they are moved to their new home in The Islands area of the Zoo, officials said.
