BALDWIN, Pa.,None — Canonsburg police filed more charges against the ex-boyfriend of a slain 21-year-old Baldwin woman.
According to police, Jordan Clemons was charged with flight to avoid apprehension and escape. Police said Clemons ran away from Allegheny County officers as they were trying to serve a warrant for simple assault last Saturday.
Clemons is expected to be arraigned on the charges next week. He was arrested on Thursday after a his missing ex-girlfriend was found dead in Mount Pleasant Township, police said.
Karissa Kunco, 21, hadn't been seen since about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when she left for work in Green Tree. Police believe she may have possibly been abducted by Clemons, who was accused of assaulting her in December.
Police said Clemons, of Canonsburg, is a person of interest in Kunco's slaying, but officers stopped short of calling him a suspect.
Channel 11's Cara Sapida spoke to Kunco's family on Friday. They said Clemons had beaten Kunco beyond recognition in December.
"She went there and he just attacked her. He probably beat her for 15 minutes," said Kunco's stepsister Jamie Khalil.
Kunco's family said she was petrified of Clemons since the attack, and she had just healed from her injuries when she went missing. They said she filed a protection from abuse order against Clemons after the beating, and shortly after, he posted a message on her Facebook page.
"[It said] 'I got something for you. I got something for your whole family.' I think what he meant by that, he knew he was going to take her from us. That's how he was going to hurt us all,'" Khalil said.
Documents show that Clemons is also facing charges in connection with a burglary that happened last year in Canonsburg. He turned himself in to authorities late Thursday night with his mother by his side, police said.
Police found Kunco's wrecked car on Gladden Road in Cecil Township on Thursday.
"We initially treated it as an accident until our officer realized this was the vehicle of a reported missing person out of Baldwin," said Cecil Township police Chief John Pushak.
Kunco's body was later found with stab wounds in a wooded area in Mount Pleasant Township.
A candlelight vigil was held Thursday night in Brookline, not far from where Kunco grew up. Mourners lined the sidewalk with candles.
During the vigil, Kunco's aunt was brought to tears.
"My niece was a wonderful, wonderful person and did not deserve this at all," said Debbie Ryce.
Clemons had multiple warrants out for his arrest, including warrants from Canonsburg police for burglaries and from Pittsburgh police for allegedly assaulting Kunco in December, police said.
Clemons' mother told Channel 11 News that her son is depressed and attempted suicide three times over the holiday season due to the troubled relationship.
Police said Clemons possibly used Kunco's father's credit cards in the Washington County area, buying an Xbox at a store, as well as gas at a convenience store.
Earlier this month, Kunco's father also reported that Clemons stole two checks from his daughter's purse.
