WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — Some parents and area residents rallied outside the Mount Pleasant Township building Wednesday night to protest Range Resources’ latest drilling operation, which is less than a mile away from Fort Cherry High School.
"We're tired of so many wells surrounding our school within a mile,” Fort Cherry parent Cathy Lodge said.
Rally attendees demanded that supervisors issue a violation notice against Range Resources. Fort Cherry parents claim the company forced school buses full of children off the road to begin their latest drilling work on Oct. 12.
Range Resources officials claim they followed the township’s permits and are abiding by all regulations in place.
The company released a statement to Channel 11 News that read, in part:
Farmers, such as John Campell, said they support the company.
"I have over 100 head of cattle. There's absolutely no problem with the water. No problem with the air,” Campell said.
The Fort Cherry School District does have a lease with Range Resources, but parents said they will continue to push for change.
