1 killed, 3 injured after car crash in Point Breeze

One person was killed and three others were injured in a car crash in Point Breeze Saturday.

PITTSBURGH — The crash occurred in the 1200 block of Shady Avenue around noon Saturday, police said.

According to city public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler, two vehicles were involved in the crash.

A gold Lexus was traveling northbound on Shady Avenue when a silver Chevrolet sedan lost control from the opposite lane and caused the two vehicles to collide.

Angelica Fields, 30, of Uniontown, was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian.

Three other people involved in the crash -- one man and two women -- were transported to nearby hospitals in stable condition.

"I heard a horn beep, then a crash, then a thud when it hit the telephone pole. After that, I called 911," said Albert Biglan, a witness.

Biglan has lived on Shady Avenue for a decade. He said the crash directly in front of his house, unfortunately, isn't surprising.

"It's 25 miles per hour speed limit and people are going too fast. More speed-related than anything," Biglan said.

Shady Avenue was temporarily shut down between Fifth Avenue and Hastings Street, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety's Twitter feed.

Police aren't saying if speed or the wet weather played a rule in the crash.
