1 man dead, 1 flown to Pittsburgh hospital after Westmoreland County shooting

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — Two men shot each other and one died early Sunday morning in Westmoreland County, according to state police troopers.

Investigators said the other man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds.

The Coroner was called to the scene along Mendon Road near Smithon in Westmoreland County.

Troopers said there was a bonfire with about a dozen people at a home. A boyfriend and girlfriend left the party and had an argument. The girlfriend returned to the party, followed by her boyfriend a short time later. Troopers said he was armed with a shotgun, got into an argument with another man and they both fired. The man with the shotgun fired first, according to investigators, and died at the scene. He has been identified as 44-year-old David Hoffman.

Troopers said alcohol contributed to the deadly shooting.
