PITTSBURGH — A 15-year-old boy died at a hospital after he was found shot and not breathing on a sidewalk in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood late Monday night, police said.
Multiple shots were reported to have been fired about 11 p.m. along Creedmoor Avenue.
When police responded to the area, they found Christian Redinger on the sidewalk, officials said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made.
Jessica Hays said when she heard her son had been shot, she started running. She ran three blocks to the scene, barefoot.
“My son’s laying there white, white as a ghost... blood everywhere,” Hays said.
Paramedics took her son to the hospital, where they told her he was shot more than 20 times.
“Over 20 bullets hit him. Over 20... they stopped counting over 20,” she said. “My son’s 15. He’s just a baby. Just a little baby. He didn’t deserve this, nobody does. He’s never hurt anybody.”
Christian had just finished 8th grade in Pittsburgh Public Schools. He was looking forward to taking his girlfriend to Kennywood, his mother said.
The district released a statement on Tuesday, saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn that Christian Redinger was the victim of a shooting last night. The 9th grader most recently attended Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
Police have not released much information about the shooting and the investigation continues.
