19-year-old woman dead, man hurt after shooting in Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A 19-year-old woman died after a shooting Wednesday night in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood that also sent a man to a hospital, officials said.

Police received a ShotSpotter alert shortly after 8:30 p.m. and officers headed toward the scene on Flowers Avenue. While on their way, a car with two shooting victims inside stopped in front of the officers on Blair Street.

A woman who was shot in the shoulder was removed from the car by officers, who began CPR. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but she later died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Kwaeonte Carpenter.

A man who was in the car suffered a gunshot wound to the hand. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Detectives from Major Crimes are handling the investigation.
