WILKINSBURG, Pa. — Two children were found unresponsive inside a Wilkinsburg home on Wednesday.

Wilkinsburg police said they were called to the home in the 1100 block of Franklin Avenue at 7:35 a.m. to help the fire department for a possible carbon monoxide emergency. A check for carbon monoxide by the Pittsburgh Fire Department was negative.

Investigators said a 5-year-old child was taken out of the home unresponsive at 1:44 a.m. and now, a second child in the home was unresponsive.

The little boy is in critical condition and the little girl is in stable condition, police said.

Allegheny County police are now investigating what caused the children to become unresponsive. The children were mysteriously sickened several hours apart -- the first around 2 a.m., then six hours later the second child could not be awakened.

Family said the children ate salmon for dinner Tuesday night, so what remained of the fish was collected and will be tested.
