2 killed in crash on I-376 east near Hopewell

HOPEWELL, Pa. — The Beaver Valley Expressway was closed for several hours after a crash involving a wrong-way driver killed two people.

The crash happened on the inbound side of the highway near Hopewell around 1 p.m. and the highway remained closed until about 5 p.m.

According to a police report, 87-year-old Thomas Riggins was driving eastbound when he pulled over onto the right shoulder.

A witness told police Riggins then turned around and began traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The second driver, 82-year-old Franklin Eshbaugh was also killed. Neither vehicle had any passengers.
