Allegheny, Beaver counties added to Pa. spotted lanternfly quarantine zone

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Ahead of the spring hatch of the invasive spotted lanternflies, 12 Pennsylvania counties, including Allegheny and Beaver, have been added to the state’s quarantine zone.

The additions bring the total number of counties in Pennsylvania’s spotted lanternfly quarantine zone to 26, according to the Department of Agriculture.

The spotted lanternfly attacks things such as grapevines, fruit trees and hardwoods.

Officials said the new counties added to the quarantine zone are not completely infested, but they have a few municipalities with known infestations.

People are asked to report all sightings of the spotted lanternfly to the Department of Agriculture.
