PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County reported 13 new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, some of them dating back to July, according to the Allegheny County Health Department.
The newly reported deaths range from July 25-Aug.11. Two of the deaths were people in their 60s, three in their 70s, six in their 80s and two in their 90s. Nine of them are long term care facility related. The total number of people who have died from coronavirus complications in the county is 273.
Allegheny County also reported 70 new positive cases, and 1 new hospitalization.

With Wednesday new cases, the county’s total is now at 9,078 COVID-19 cases. In the last 24 hours, the new positive cases come from 1,775 test results from from Aug. 3 through August 11.

Two more Port Authority employees have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total to 39. Both employees, a mechanic and service person, work out of the facility in the city’s Manchester neighborhood and tested positive on Aug. 6. They last worked on July 31.
Allegheny County leaders highlighted progress made in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, with today’s positivity rate below 4% for the first time in more than a month. But that doesn’t mean there will be any drastic changes to orders currently in place.
During a news conference on Wednesday, leaders spoke about a drop in cases over the last week.
That includes the number of people who tested positive, telling contact tracers they visited bars, restaurants, or big parties.
It’s progress, but the county health director and county executive said they’re focused on safely reopening schools before changing any restrictions on restaurants and bars
Across the state, 849 new positive cases of COVID-19 were reported bringing the statewide total to 121,130, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
