PITTSBURGH — A teen was arrested in the deadly shooting of another teenager in Pittsburgh last month.
Deron Darby, 15, of Pittsburgh has been charged in the death of 17-year-old Isaiah Freeman.
This shooting is the latest in a surge of violence involving teens in Pittsburgh.
Officers were called to Bedford Avenue in the Hill District on April 24 after reports of gunshots. When they arrived they found Freeman shot and being loaded into a private vehicle.
Officers followed the driver to the hospital where he died.

Witnesses told police that Darby pulled out a gun and removed the bullets. When he started pointing it at other people, Freeman swatted him away, according to the criminal complaint.
Witnesses said that he put the bullets back in the gun and shot Freeman, according to court documents.

Darby is charged with criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, and false reports to law enforcement.
So far in 2021 there have been 21 murders in the city and nearly 50 non-deadly shootings. Compared to the same time in 2020, those are 80% and 90% increases respectively, police said.
