An Ohio construction firm will spend the next two years replacing two dam lift gates on an Ohio River lock and dam in Beaver County.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $5.6 million contract to C.J. Mahan Construction Co. to do the work at Montgomery Lift and Dam in Monaca.

“The contract is necessary to avoid near term catastrophic gate failure, which could result in a potential loss of navigation and impact to utility and commercial water intakes on the upper Ohio River,” said David Heidish, project manager for the Pittsburgh District, in a statement.
The Army Corps has previously repaired the dam, but a long-term solution was necessary.
The project is scheduled to begin in autumn and wrap up in 2019.
