PITTSBURGH — There is a growing frustration among students at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh over the uncertain future of the school.

Students, especially seniors, need to make important decisions about finishing their coursework at the art institute or going elsewhere in order to graduate and get a diploma.

The parent company that owns the art institute filed paperwork with the state department of education saying the school would be closed for good on March 31.

The parent company is also in federal receivership and apparently there are several buyers meaning the school might continue to operate.

All of these unknowns make it difficult for students to make their own decisions.

Channel 11 broke the news in January that Art Institute had laid off most of its staffed, filed for federal receivership and was set to close for good in March. On Fruday a federally appointed mediator stopped the closure saying there is a potential buyer and the school could remain open.

About 230 students take classes at the schools Penn Avenue location, and nearly 2,000 students take classes online.
