Channel 11's Liz Kilmer confirmed Walnut Capital just bought a building on Penn Avenue from Matthews International and plans to lease it as office space.

Matthews employees still work there now but will be moving in the near future. A Walnut Capital executive said once that happens, they'll do some renovation and hope to move in something new within a year. The executive added that there's already interest.

Kilmer also reached out to Matthews International spokesperson, who provided the following statement:

Matthews International continuously evaluates our real estate portfolio so we can make the best use of our space, bring teammates together and modernize facilities to help us better serve clients, collaborate and be a better place to work.

As part of that effort, on September 27, 2019, Matthews International closed on the sale of our Bakery Square building.

Employees who currently work at this location will be relocated to other Pittsburgh area offices. There are no impacts on employee jobs or changes to our business.
