BEAVER, Pa. — The Beaver Area High School principal was not on the job Monday as students went back for their first day.
Channel 11 confirmed with Superintendent Dr. Carrie Rowe that she placed Steve Wellendorf on paid administrative leave. This came a few weeks before classes started and she doesn't know how long it will last or what the outcome will be.
Rowe said the leave is not due to a criminal issue, but added that she could not comment any further, saying it's a personnel matter.
She said Wellendorf was heading into his fifth year as principal. Before that, he worked at several different Beaver County districts.
Channel 11 reached out to the principal but hasn't heard back yet.
The assistant principal is in charge for now.
