Bethel Park to move forward with plans to build $2 million splash pad

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — Families in the South Hills will soon have a new place to beat the heat.

After nearly seven years of planning, a $2 million splash pad will be coming to Bethel Park.

Bethel Park resident Kim Allen Kamenicky is excited to see the ball field where her kids play transformed.

“We never had anything like this. If we want to take them places, we have to go to Upper St. Clair or other neighboring communities,” she said.

Bethel Park mayor Jack Allen toured all of the splash pads in Pittsburgh to get ideas.

For now, the project is in the design phase, but he knows there will be two separate pads, with one just for toddlers.

“We will have one that would be for ages 2 to 5, and on the other side ages 5 to 11. We’ve also talked about putting in pavilions and possibly a lazy river,” said Allen.

Bethel Park residents received a survey asking what they wanted to see most in their community.

The mayor says a pool was the number one answer, followed by a splash pad.

“This will keep our people in our own community and the little kids running around here,” said Allen.

State representative Natalie Mihalek helped secure $750,000 in grants to help make the plan possible.
