Black bear found in tree on Clarion University’s campus

CLARION, Pa. — A black bear was spotted in a tree Tuesday on Clarion University’s campus, and it led to an impromptu teaching lesson for students.

The bear was subdued with two doses of tranquilizer, officials said. A fire department then used a bucket truck to knock it out of the tree so it fell into a tarp below that was being held by several people.

Before the bear was taken away, a wildlife conservation officer let three nursing students help out. Two of the students put tags in the bear’s ears and the third pulled out a tooth, which was sent to a lab to figure out the animal’s age.
