MOON TOWNSHIP — 6:05 P.M. UPDATE: Officials have identified the body as Roy Sanders, 50, of Coraopolis.

Sanders was reported missing Thursday at 5 p.m., Moon Township police said. He hadn't been seen by his family since Monday.

A body was found Friday morning in a lake on the golf course at Montour Heights Country Club in Moon Township, authorities said.

The discovery was made about 8:30 a.m. Investigators placed evidence markers on the course, and divers searched the lake on the country club’s grounds.

Police believe the driver who ended up in the golf course lake was the same driver they were looking for Tuesday after a hit-and-run on Coraopolis Heights Road.

"By the time officers got there, they had fled the scene," Moon police Capt. Greg Seamon said. "They recovered some car parts at the telephone pole and we believe those car parts will match the car that was recovered."

"Sad. Very sad," said Karen George, who works at the church next to the country club. "Last year, there was a man that had a heart attack and it was, like, 'Did that happen again?'"

Tread marks were visible on the back section of the golf course. A car was pulled from the water shortly before noon.

The country club was closed most of the day while authorities investigated and it reopened Friday afternoon.

Police don't know how or why the car and the victim wound up 400 yards from the road in the lake, but the victim was no longer in the driver's seat, which was in the reclined position.

"The groundskeepers were down around that pond and all they could see was the shoulders and head sticking out of the water and he was facedown," Seamon said. "We believe the car traveled through that parking lot, through some woods and down over the hill, over the golf course and into the pond."

Police believe they know who the victim is, but have not released the name because the next of kin has not yet been located.
