BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Managers at Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, the location of the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the state, refused to cooperate with an audit, Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said Friday.
He was unable to start the audit of the Beaver County center last spring because the facility’s then-managers refused to even schedule a first meeting, DePasquale said.

“My audit was planned to ensure that Medicaid patients receive the services for which the state is billed by direct care providers,” DePasquale said in a news release. “I’d still like to audit Brighton and I’m very disappointed that they did not comply, but my audit team will not undertake this review while a state investigation is ongoing.”
Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center had more than 400 coronavirus cases and 73 deaths.
