MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A local woman is in the hospital fighting for her life, after getting hit by a car while crossing the street outside her workplace in Monroeville.
Monroeville police said the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, when a vehicle struck Tammy Bertera, one of the managers at Esta Esta Restaurant along Route 22.
Bertera was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Her injuries are so severe she had to have surgery Wednesday afternoon.
“It was right here in the middle of business 22 where she was hit by a car. This is a very busy six lane road. I’m told she was crossing the street to grab food at around lunchtime yesterday,” Jesse Duwall, who works across the street, said.
Police continue to investigate but said the driver involved remained on scene and was cooperating with officers.
