Candidate for Braddock Council, 2 other Allegheny Co. men arrested in Altoona with heroin

ALTOONA, Pa. — A 21-year-old man running for a council seat in Braddock was among three men arrested on heroin trafficking charges in Altoona.

Raemon Prunty is listed as running for an open seat, according to the Allegheny County Elections Division.

Altoona police said they started investigating after “large amounts of heroin” were being brought in from the Pittsburgh area. On Sunday, officers seized more than 3,700 heroin packets and nearly $9,000 from a home there. The next day, Prunty and Sir Jihad Naire Valcin were arrested after officers found them transporting an additional 5,000 packets of heroin.

Investigators said they believed the source of the heroin was Rasul Abdullah Aquil of Wilkinsburg. Officers attempted to arrest him in the Pittsburgh area, but he could not be located. He is still wanted.
