MURRYSVILLE, Pa. — Two homes in a senior living community in Murrysville were destroyed Thursday night when flames swept through them.
Officials said flames spread when a car that was in a carport caught fire just before 10 p.m. on Ridge Lane in the Village of Clover Ridge community.
"I heard the sirens and everything and then I looked out my window and I looked up here and it was really blazing," said neighbor Kathy Madjerich.
Firefighters from 10 companies responded to the blaze. Efforts were hampered by a frozen fire hydrant that cracked and began spraying water all over that instantly froze.

"It was really bad," Madjerich said. "It was really terrible."
A firefighter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, an emergency dispatcher told Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE.
"I feel bad for them," said a neighbor named Lynn. "I watched them out here and I thought, I wouldn't want to have to do that."
No one who lived in the homes was injured. One of the homes was totally destroyed.
