PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 News is excited to announce the launch of a 4 p.m. newscast starting this fall on WPXI-TV. The first 4 p.m. newscast is set for Monday, September 13th.

“With Judge Judy ending the production of new shows, and the strong appetite for local news in Pittsburgh, it was a natural choice to launch a 4 p.m. newscast,” said WPXI Vice President and General Manager Kevin Hayes.

Award-winning journalist Susan Koeppen will join the Channel 11 News team to anchor the new broadcast. For most of the last decade, Susan helped guide viewers in Western Pennsylvania through the biggest stories in our community as an anchor and storyteller. Prior to her anchor role in Pittsburgh, Susan fought for consumers across the country as a Consumer Correspondent for CBS News, appearing on the CBS Evening News and the CBS Early Show for many years. During that time, she broke the story of the largest crib recall in U.S. history. Susan also reported live from the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville in 2001. She has been honored with 9 Emmys throughout her accomplished career, along with many other awards.

“We have a great team of experienced, dedicated journalists in our newsroom, so adding someone of Susan’s caliber will only make us better,” said Channel 11 News Director Scott Trabandt. “Her passion for telling stories and her love for Western Pennsylvania is immediately evident. There’s no question why she has been so successful in this market to this point and we’re excited for her to join the Channel 11 team.”

A wife and mother of three, Susan and her family are ingrained in the Pittsburgh community. She knows the joys of living in this incredible area, and the challenges of raising a family, commuting and finding time to make it all work.

“This is a great opportunity with a great team of people and I could not be more thrilled to help launch the new 4 p.m. newscast at WPXI,” Susan said. “It’s a perfect partnership and I jumped at the chance to be part of this new venture.”

The station’s newest newscast will contain what Channel 11 News viewers have come to expect; live coverage of breaking news, local news and of course local weather from Severe Weather Team 11.
