MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A contractor fell into a hole Friday morning outside a building in Monroeville, officials said.
The fall happened shortly before 8 a.m. outside the CVS Health building as the contractor was moving plywood that was covering the hole.
Officials said the drop was about 8-10 feet, and rescue crews were able to get the contractor out of the hole using a rigging system with an excavator that was already on-site.
“We had EMS workers and fire workers in the hole tending to the patient the entire time,” Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department Company 1 Chief Jason Sonafelt said.

The contractor is OK, but he was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
“He’s doing well. He’s in good spirits,” Sonafelt said. “Couple minor injuries, but all is well.”
As soon as the ambulance left to take the contractor to the hospital, other workers began filling the hole.
