PITTSBURGH — State and federal investigators are fighting back against criminals who are using the coronavirus to try to take advantage of people.
The Western Pennsylvania COVID-19 Fraud Task Force was announced Thursday by U.S. Attorney Scott Brady and Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

Phishing scams are just one approach criminals are taking. They send bogus emails hoping people will click a link so they can steal information.
Among other crimes, the task force will also be investigating charity scams in which donations are solicited and treatment scams in which fake cures are sold, as well as price gouging.
