PITTSBURGH — The vaccine for COVID-19 is on wheels... literally.
A mobile health unit is working to bring the vaccine to thousands of people in western Pennsylvania.
“Both rooms have independent air flow. So depending upon what we are doing as far as testing and we need to have negative airflow, this room can do it,” Dr. George Garrow, Chief Medical Officer with Primary Health Network, said. “We can do this without the person performing the test having to repeatedly don PPE for the vaccination.”
Garrow gave Channel 11 a look inside one of the mobile units. It includes an apron curtain that will help keep people safe and reduce PPE use. There are two rooms in each unit with everything needed to administer the vaccine and COVID-19 tests.
“A unit like this will allow us to be able to get out and into the pockets of communities where maybe access could be a barrier,” Garrow said.
