Tents set up for COVID-19 self-swab testing outside Rite Aid in Allegheny County

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The Rite Aid in Monroeville is now a COVID-19 self-swab testing site.

Starting Thursday, the Rite Aid on William Penn Highway will have the self-swab tests, which will be administered in the store’s parking lot and overseen by Rite Aid pharmacists.

Tents are set up in the parking lot for cars to drive up to.

People who are eligible are required to preregister and schedule appointments on Rite Aid’s website. Eligibility is based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

People who go to be tested need to have government-issued identification and be at least 18 years old.

People must stay in their vehicles for the testing, which is free to those who are eligible. Identification can be shown through the car window without rolling it down.

When people pull up for testing, the test will be placed on a table and an employee will walk them through how to administer the test. Once the test is complete, the area is disinfected.

Other Pennsylvania Rite Aid self-testing sites are in York, Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

The sites will be open for testing seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s expected that about 200 tests will be able to be conducted each day.
