Crews battle fire at Greensburg home

GREENSBURG, Pa. — Smoke was pouring from a home in Greensburg as fire crews battled flames that could be seen licking at the roof.

The home is on Grant Street. Channel 11′s crew at the scene could see a tree down across the road that brought lines down from a nearby utility pole. That was why fire officials were in the area in the first place.

The Greensburg fire chief said he could smell smoke from the street and quickly realized it could be coming from the house. It is broken into four apartments. Fire officials said everyone inside made it out safely. Two cats had to be taken to a local vet to be checked out.

The fire chief said it was hard to say just how much damage was done, but when they smelled the smoke and realized it was the house, “we knew it was already gone.”

Several homes on the street are without power due to the fire. It will likely be several hours before everything gets cleaned up.
