PITTSBURGH — If you’ve ever driven on Beechwood Boulevard in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, you know there’s a lot of bumps — a lot of speed humps.

There’s about to be four more, and people who live there really hope it helps.

Crews worked on cutting out the road in four spots and adding speed humps.

A study of the area showed about 5,500 vehicles use it every day.

A majority of drivers go 38 mph well over the posted 25 mph speed limit. That’s why the city targeted this area for a speed calming project.

People who live around there say they signed a petition several years ago for something to be done to get drivers to slow down.

“This corner in particular is dangerous because you can’t see around this corner on Beechwood Boulevard and so when people do come through here there’s been times when you could actually hear people’s tires screeching when they come through,” said resident Justin Rothermel.

The project is expected to cost about $110,000. More data will be collected to see if the project helps.
