Daycare owner thankful no kids inside as rushing water flooded facility

MCDONALD, Pa. — A daycare owner told Channel 11 she is thankful there were no kids inside as the waters rose quickly Wednesday morning. Raggedy Ann’s Educational Childcare will stay closed as work needs to be done to clean up following the flooding.

Ann Garry said she watched minute by minute as the water crept closer.

“When we got here this morning, it was through the entire daycare. The water had receded but it was just covered in mud,” Garry said.

If anyone see’s a green dumpster with Raggedy Ann’s painted on it, please let me know. Waste Management is charging me $600 for a new one! This has been a terrible day……

Nearly 30 kids were kept out of harm’s way, but Garry’s job isn’t done.

“We have to replace all the flooring,” she said. “Everything has to come out including the cabinetry. We are going to cut out the dry wall, put new dry wall down at the bottom, all where the water might have touched.”

Garry and her family spent the rest of the day cleaning anything and everything.

“Luckily we put all our stuff up yesterday so none of our toys got dirty but I feel like because they were in an environment that was dirty, I just feel like it all needs cleaned,” she said.

She’s hoping to reopen the facility sometime next week, but needs help. She has to replace two small refrigerators and needs a dumpster. Plus, anyone with dry wall experience is welcome to help too.
