SOUTH PARK, Pa. — A South Park couple claims their neighbor shot their dog, causing the dog to have its leg amputated.

Curtis Warren and Catherine Wascovich said that while their two dogs were playing in their fenced-in yard three weeks ago, a neighbor walked up, opened the gate and shot their 6-year-old American bulldog Trey.

"He pointed and at first, I thought it was a Taser because my dog went to the side and yelped. As I was looking at him, I noticed that he had a gun in his hand and he pointed again and shot him," Wascovich said.

Trey underwent two emergency blood transfusions that cost a couple thousands of dollars.

A picture shows two bullet holes and we learned that one bullet is still lodged inside of him. Eventually, Trey's leg was amputated.

South Park police confirmed they were investigating but made no arrests.

The chief said it was one person's word against another, and the neighbor told police he acted in self-defense.

"He had his back to him when he was shot," Warren said.

Warren and Wascovich said the case has now been transferred to a cruelty officer at Animal Friends. That doesn't sit well with them and they're demanding more.

"They let him go because this is an animal cruelty...because he had a concealed weapons permit and he's allowed to protect himself. Protect himself, not provoke," Warren said.

Channel 11's Erin Clarke knocked on the neighbor's door to get his side of the story, but no one answered.
