Stowe Township police are looking for the person who shot a Rottweiler two times, then dumped him in a small tunnel under the McKees Rocks Bridge.

The man who found the dog called township commissioner Cheryl McDermott.

"The dog was yelping and they picked it up. They didn’t realize it had been shot. They thought maybe it was injured," McDermott said.

It wasn't until the dog was at the animal hospital that medics realized he was shot twice, once in the shoulder and another time in the stomach.

McDermott said the dog had emergency surgery on Monday, and is expected to be OK.

"To think that someone could go and do this to something innocent. You’re picking on an innocent animal," McDermott said.

TRENDING NOW:

A few months ago, Channel 11 told you there were several cats shot in Stowe Township and McKees Rocks. McDermott said there hasn't been an arrest in those cases, but she doesn't think they're connected.

"These are very weak people and I believe they’re just trying to see if they can get away with abusing an animal," McDermott said.

Stowe Township Police are looking at surveillance cameras in the area, and they have a feeling whoever did this is local.

"To know this is here you have to be familiar with this area. Somebody just doesn’t say you are going to go down the road and find a tunnel and I’m gonna drop this dog off," McDermott said.

The investigation is ongoing, but McDermott said dog fighting does not seem to be something they're looking at.
