SOUTH PARK TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A money order scam has police in South Park Township issuing a warning.
Money orders are mailed to victims, asking them to deposit the check and then purchase gift cards and call in the numbers associated with them, according to the South Park Township Police Department. The check then bounces a few days later.
The police department said township residents have reported the scam, noting that the documents used in the scam look authentic.

“If you ever have a question about a phone call or a piece of mail that asks you to send money or gift cards, please call us ... we would rather check into it for you rather than take a theft report. Recovering any money in these types of cases is rare. Don’t get scammed!” the police department posted on Facebook.
