Drive-up coronavirus testing ends at some locations

PITTSBURGH — Drive-up coronavirus testing has been suspended by the Central Outreach Wellness Center.

While people still need tests, there isn’t as much of a need for the drive-up sites to continue, considering area hospitals are now testing.

Central Outreach had been offering drive-up testing at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, on the North Shore and in Aliquippa. Those ended earlier this week after yielding about 100 positive results of the hundreds of people who were tested.

According to founder Dr. Stacy Lane, the testing sites were started to serve as a stopgap for the community.

Typically, Central Outreach’s mission is to serve the LGBT community and people battling addictions.

“We want to get back to our mission. We are happy to provide a service if the need arises again. We're happy to collaborate with any of the organizations that need us, our resources. But, at this time, it looks as if the bigger systems have things under a little bit of control,” Lane said.

Although Central Outreach’s drive-up testing has stopped, there are still places where people can be tested for the coronavirus.

Allegheny Health Network has the following four drive-up locations for patients who have a prescription order from an AHN doctor:

• AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion, 12311 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA 15090
• AHN Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion, 1010 Higbee Drive, Bethel Park, PA 15102
• 4220 William Penn Highway, Monroeville, PA 15146
• AHN West Side Health + Wellness Pavilion, 4247 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506

UPMC has the following testing sites, but patients must also have a physician referral:

• South Side Specimen Collection Center, 2000 Mary Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203
• UPMC Altoona, 2612 Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602
• UPMC Hamot, Leir Building, 150 West 3rd Street, Erie, PA 16505
• UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg, Arlington Avenue Collection, 775 S. Arlington Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17109
• UPMC Susquehanna, 609 Brandon Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701
