ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — Allegheny County leads the state in the number of traffic citations handed out in school zones, Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.
The data collected by magisterial district courts statewide shows that over the past five years, 18 percent of the 10,800 citations issued statewide for passing a school bus were from Allegheny County, according to TribLIVE.
In addition, 18 percent of the 20,000 citations issued statewide from 2014 to 2018 for speeding in a school zone were out of Allegheny County, TribLIVE reported.

A state law now allows school districts to install cameras to catch drivers who pass buses while students are getting on or off.
The punishment in Pennsylvania for passing a school bus is a fine of up to $250, five points on a driver’s record and a 60-day license suspension.
