PITTSBURGH — A professor at Duquesne University has been fired a month after he was placed on paid leave after video surfaced showing him using a racial slur during a virtual lesson.
Gary Shank, who has been a faculty member at the university since 1997, was on paid leave since Sept. 11.

“We have 30 days to grieve the termination and certainly will do so,” Warner Mariani, the attorney for Shank, told Channel 11.
Multiple videos showing the portions of the virtual class lesson were posted on social media after it happened.
