EAST DEER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — If you’re speeding along Route 28 up the Allegheny River, you’ll notice a new addition to the brewery being built in East Deer: a sign reading “Pittsburgh Brewing Co.”
According to our partners at TribLIVE.com, the brewery is being developed as the new home of Iron City Beer. Company officials said they plan to add more branding and signage to the building to make the message clear to the tens of thousands of drivers who use the highway each day.
The site previously housed the Pittsburgh Glass Works and a PPG facility.
Pittsburgh Brewing Co.’s Lawrenceville brewery closed in 2009 after 148 years of operation. Since then, a third party has been brewing Iron City at a Latrobe plant.
There will also be a focus on whiskey at the new East Deer facility.
