SOMERSET, Pa. — An African elephant calf that had been in “guarded condition” at the Pittsburgh Zoo’s International Conservation Center in Somerset County continues to be closely monitored around the clock, but is showing improvement.

The zoo posted the update Friday on Twitter, saying “internal and external veterinary teams are closely monitoring her health 24 hours a day. She is showing signs of stabilizing as she continues on her long journey toward recovery.”
The calf was born July 18.
