The principal of Woodland Hills High School has resigned.

There were cheers as the Woodland Hills School Board accepted Kevin Murray's resignation.

He's been in the spotlight for months now, beginning last year when he was caught on audio threatening a student.

In a statement from Murray's attorney, Phil DiLucente said, "I can confirm that earlier today Kevin Murray has resigned as principal and head football coach at Woodland Hills High School. It was in the best interest of both parties."

Murray was briefly placed on leave, but never charged.

Outraged parents and community leaders held protests. Wednesday night, they applauded the move.

In June, the State Department of Education was holding up the certification of Murray because he was under investigation for "the fitness of his character.”

Murray was accused of harassing a student with special needs, which was caught on camera last December.

He also came under fire when video of a school resource officer roughing up students surfaced.

Murray was ultimately cleared by the district attorney and reinstated, but the State Board of Education still is reviewing his application for certification.
