PITTSBURGH — Family and friends are coming together to remember the life of Alexus Chester.

Chester just turned 17-years-old on the day she was shot and killed during a triple shooting in the Hill District.

"Lexus just happened to be there on the porch when the gunfire started and they killed my baby on her birthday," Christy Chester, Alexus' mother said.

There's nothing that seems more painful than losing a child.

"Alexus didn't deserve this," Christy said.

Instead of enjoying the Arts Festival at the Point, family and friends of Alexus gathered at a balloon release.

"Lexus was an angel. She would help anybody and everybody she wanted the best for everybody," Christy said.

Christy said her daughter was in good spirits on June 1. She spent some time with loved ones and enjoyed some birthday cake.

"She normally didn’t go to any parties or anything that. Would’ve been her only party in her whole 17 years of life," Christy said.

Christy said her daughter was an innocent bystander when shots rang out. Two others were shot and only one survived. So far, no one has been arrested.

"This is a young lady who had a bright future, who was loved by everybody and the least they can do for this family is set forward or someone who knows something needs to say something," said Joi Patterson, Alexus' aunt.

While police investigate, friends and loved ones are determined to keep her memory alive.
