MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — The family of a woman who was killed in a shooting in McKees Rocks earlier this month remembered her as a person who would help those in need.
Dorai Harris, 21, of Penn Hills, was shot and killed July 12 just after midnight on Gray Street in McKees Rocks. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to an area hospital where she later died.
Harris’ uncle, Eric Looney, said she captured the hearts of so many. She loved her family, loved traveling and loved achieving her goals.
“You felt her brightness that was within her when she would walk in a room,” Looney said. “At the age of 3 I named her light bright.”
And as she grew older, her passion to give to those in need shined just as brightly.
“Dorai always made sure that we went down to skid row to feed the less fortunate. That’s the type of person she was,” Looney said.
That’s what Harris did every time she visited her uncle in California.
Harris had plans to work in her uncle’s shop doing nails. But these dreams were tragically taken away from her. The family says there are so many questions surrounding her death.
“Dorai was not out on the streets. That’s not where we are from. That’s not a place that she hung out at that’s not who she is. Dorai was about achieving her goals,” Looney said.
Harris’ family is now forced to learn how to live without the light they once had. And they just want answers.
“My sister is broken, her father is broken, her sister, her brothers are broken. Our family is broken,” Looney said.
The family set up a gofundme page with the money going to fulfill Harris’ dream of opening her own nail shop. Harris’ mother plans on going to school to learn how to do nails to work in the shop.
