FREEDOM, Pa. — A father was killed in his Beaver County home by his son, who traveled to the area from Massachusetts.
Investigators said that Michael Miklaucic, 57, from Plymouth, called 911 around 8 a.m. Tuesday and told dispatchers that he killed his father. When officers arrived at the home on Fezell Road in New Sewickley, they found John Miklaucic, 83, dead inside.

Michael Miklaucic was taken into custody, where he confessed to the strangulation of his father, police said.
Just two days earlier, they met with a detective to report that John had been falling victim to a Publishers Clearing House scam for the past year. Police gathered information and launched an investigation.
Michael Miklaucic admitted to police that he killed his father because he was embarrassed that he’d been scammed for the last year, and he thought he was putting his father out of his misery.
“During the confession, he stated that he was a little embarrassed of the shame that he had brought upon himself by getting involved in the scam,” police said. “This is a cautionary tale that you all need to remind your listeners and viewers of the scams hitting our seniors every day.”
